Twinzer Surfboards
Twinzer surfboards were invented in 1988 by Will Jobson of Huntington Beach, California. He created it as way to improve on the design of the twin fin, which had largely fallen out of use after the introduction of the tri fin thruster in 1981. Twinzers have 4 fins, two smaller fins closer to the rail along with two larger fins behind these closer to the center. The board provides more traction than a twin fin, along with the same high speed and most of the maneuverability.
This fin setup is most common on wide tailed fishboards. I have one and it's a great board, at least in head high and under surf. Frontside it's one of my favorite boards. Backside I think it feels a little tighter than other boards, but only slightly so. It's a great wave catcher, giving me decent speed on fairly gutless waves. I prefer it my quads on the small waves.
