Switching from Funboard to Fishboard

by Jim Fuller
(California)

I ride a 7'4" funboard and am thinking about buying a 6ft Quad Fish - Retro Style. Is this the right choice for somebody that weighs about 145lbs and surfs 2-4ft mush most of the time?

Go for the Retro Fish
by: Admin

I think that board will work out for you given that it is a "Retro Fish". If it was a modern fish that is more like a shortboard I would say that it would be too small. I have a 5'9" Twinzer, a 5'11" Twinzer and a 6'2" Quad and I love these boards. At your weight that 6.0 Quad Retro will float you plenty. I also used to have a 6'6" shortboard and I can tell you that my fish are definitely easier to ride and paddle far better. Not only that but at 2-4ft mush waves that board will work much better. Like any new board give yourself some time to adapt to it but bottom line: I think your making the right choice.
