Skimboards
Can't decide what skimboard to buy? Consider the following:
The size really depends on your skimboarding ability, the waves, and your weight. Heavier riders usually go with bigger boards. Smaller riders can go with bigger boards if they're looking for a smoother ride without pulling new school tricks. Beginners go with bigger skimboards as well as slow runners. Start with the manufacturers size chart.
Larger surfboard shaped boards are better for actually riding waves while rounder skimboards are better for pulling tricks.
When laying the skimboard flat on the ground the tail and nose should tilt up slightly, giving it a little rocker.
Compare the different bottoms on skimboards. Some manufacturers use fiberglass while otherstreated wood or plastic. Fiberglass is faster than wood, but can chip or crack more easily. Wood can get scratched, but is less likely to chip or crack.
Popular brands of skimboards include Exile, Victoria, Slotstik, Zap, and Maui Skimmers.
