Surfers Sunscreen
A surfers sunscreen needs to be a step above some cheap weak stuff you might normally buy for walking the dog. Limiting sun exposure reduces the risk for skin problems, most notably, skin cancer. Since surfers get blasted from direct and water-reflected UV rays, a good sunscreen is important. Good sunscreen will stay on for a long surf session and won't wash into your eyes or rub off on your surfboard. The best stuff goes on leaving your face a little bit pale, even after you rub it in well. Put it on and let it soak in for at least 20 minutes. This will provide the most protection and prevent eye sting. There are also alcohol based sunscreens like Bullfrog. I have found that these are not as effective but they dry instantly so I can slather it on immediately before paddling out. Get sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. If your not wearing a wetsuit use a long arm rashguard with a SPF rating so you don't have to wast time and money applying sunscreen all over your torso. Also use SPF rated lip balm to protect the lips. Personally I use Headhunter sunblock sticks. If I don't have any on hand I get Bullfrog at the supermarket.
