Surfboard Types

Surfboard types are usually the first thing considered when choosing a surfboard. Surf Ride carries just about every type of surfboard if you can't find the right one at your local surf shop.

Longboards are more than just surfboards for beginners. Sometimes the longboard is just the best choice for a given break. Small, mellow, slow-rolling waves are best for a longboard. Of course the experienced longboarder can use them in just about any kind of surf.

Funboards are basically mini-longboards. These surfboards have the same outline, just a bit shorter. Good for somebody that is moving down from a longboard for the first time, or a longboarder that just wants a little more maneuverability.

Fish are great short, wide, fat boards that have a lot more float than a shortboard. More forgiving than a shortboard and a lot more maneuverable than a longboard, these surfboards strike a happy medium.

Shortboards are for advanced surfers that just plain want to rip. They have less float and are harder to paddle than all the other board types, but for high performance surfing, they can't be beat.

Gun Surfboards are designed exclusively for big waves.

Hybrid Surfboards fall in between two other types.

Foam - Perhaps not the coolest surfboard around, but the foam surfboard feels a little better on impact.

Stand Up Paddleboards - These boards have been gaining a lot of popularity the past few years. SUPs are essentialy very long, thick, and wide surfboards that one can stand upright on move around with a paddle.
