Surfboard Car Racks

There are two types of surfboard car racks:

Hard Racks - The preferred choice is the hard rack which is bolted on the rooftop. These are the sturdiest and most convenient car racks for surfboards. They cost a bit more than soft racks. A towel wedged between you surfboard and and rack can take some of the "pinch" off, negating any possible pressure damage. There are also locking versions availabe, so you can rest a little easier in some of "those areas".

Soft Racks - Best for travel. These are easily packed away. They are generally cheaper than hard racks but not quite as steady and mounting them can be annoying. Buy hey, the work ok on that rental car. Sometimes the hooks on them can have hard time clasping to the edge of the roof edge...really just depends on the make. I have made them clasp on every car so far but I did leave at least one slightly dented near the clasps....not that the rental company noticed.
