So...why am I putting a binocular review here. Because they make a handy surfing accessory to keep in the car. I use them for checking out the surf in some placed. For example, at one several miles long crescent of sand that I frequent, I park at one end and cast my view along the whole beach. To save me time, especially during traffic, I use the binoculars to case out the waves up to a couple of miles away. I can at least get a rough idea of the conditions and see if anybody else is in the water.
I chose this particular Bushnell because of a few factors. Price, magnification, and waterproof characteristics, and reviews.
Price was about sixty bucks. This didn't hit the wallet too hard. I debated purchasing image stabilized binoculars but the $300 price tag, minimum, put me off.
The 10x magnification is adequate for my needs. If I go much higher I would need a tripod to stabilize the things....that's just too complicated when I mostly just want to check out the surf.
These things are waterproof/fogproof. These things tend to help when your a surfer.
The reviews were very good for such an inexpensive pair of binoculars.
So how do these things perform? Very well, they deliver exactly what I need for checking out wave action up and down the beach. The image clarity is great. The little water and sand that has splattered on it has no ill effect and they have already withstood the battering of several small children.
Bonus: They work good for backyard stargazing as well.
