Fish Surfboards

There are a few categories of fishboards. Most would consider a real fish to be short, very wide, and thick. These "real fish" can come in two main types. The retro-fish is a classic deep keel twin fin such as those that were popular in the 1970's. Most real fish sold today have a similar template to those boards but with more refined contours and different fin setups, such as quads and twinzers. These boards have significantly more float than a standard shortboard and have a different feel to them. You don't "release and catch" the fins like a shortboard. This means they don't have the performance for radical manuevers like shortboard but they are very fun boards to ride

The other main category of fishboard is the "post-modern" fish as some call it. These fishboards more closely resemble a thruster shortboard. The difference is that they are about 6 inches shorter and have a wider tail and nose as well as more thickness than a thruster. The difference, however, is not nearly as dramatic as a "real" or "true" fish. These boards area also sometimes called summer fish. They ride more like a shortboard but have a little more float making them better for smaller waves.
