Your most basic piece of surfing gear is, of course, the surfboard. If your just starting out this will usually be a longboard (take a lesson first!), perhaps a soft top model to help cushion those inevitable falls. For those ready to advance there are funboards, which are basically mini-longboards. For those ready to move on to something smaller than a funboard there are plenty of shortboards for sale. Fishboards make a nice addition to any quiver for a nice balance of paddle and maneuverability. If you want to charge bigger waves, look for guns and semi-guns. Epoxy surfboards are becoming more and more popular. Lighter, stronger, more bouyant, and more environmentally friendly to manufacture than traditional surfboards.

For those of you unable to surf warm waters year round, a wetsuit is an important part of your surf gear. For some of us that surf cold water year round, including those of us at surfing-gear.net, a fullsuit is as indispensable as a surfboard. There are always high quality surfing wetsuits for sale, including our favorite, Oneill and Rip Curl. If your surfing water temps around the mid 60's, a springsuit may be the best option. Warmer than that may just call for a wetsuit top, shorts, or a vest.

Let's not forget the cheaper, but also important surfing gear we need. That includes fins, leashes, and wax. Fin selection is critical to get the most performance out your surfboard and there is a huge selection available today. Leashes are a little more simple, choose the correct length and that is pretty much it. Wax....also simple surfing equipment. Pick the correct one based on water temp.
